College

Members of a college faculty accept, as part of their job descriptions, both the authority and the primary responsibility to reach decisions that depend upon their areas of expertise, including the shape of the curriculum, subject matter and our methods of instruction, the nature of research in a field of study, and the dimensions of student life that intersect with the educational process. Instead of functioning as merely employees of the institution, then, the faculty is recognized as a body of professionals with specialized training and knowledge who are in turn uniquely qualified to exercise decision-making authority.

My work as a faculty member at Keene State College has been primarily focused in the field of English Studies. Since 1998 I have also been a member of the Core Faculty in American Studies and have served since 2005 as an Affiliate Faculty in Environmental Studies.

Hello, a friend gave me a copy of your KSC Letter from India and I have a comment or two. I do not know whether I am responding correctly as I have yet to catch up with the technology of blogging. In any case, I just want to wish your daughter Ellinore good health as I, too, had amoebic dysentery for many months after I returned to US where the doctors did not have a clue. In the end, by eating tons of yogurt, I was able balance the intestinal flora and return to good health. I picked up the hystolytica on the West Bank of the Jordan where I lived for a year. Actually, it was a good year and I will always cherish those memories. On a healthier note, we have a shrine for Ganesh in the woods of our Chesterfield home. Actually in the village of Spofford. My late husband traveled extensively in India. He was and I am a writer. I worked for the Keene Sentinel and many of your colleagues were sources of many fine feature articles. You and your family are welcome to visit and do puja here. But the hunting season is upon us and you might want to wait until spring. We have had many Hindu events at the shrine and there is an active local community that visits our shrine and reassures me that peace through people is possible. Namaste! Pat Haley
